The Patient & Family Cancer Support Center (formerly the Cancer Resource Center) supports whole-person care by providing information, wellness programming and community connections to anyone facing cancer and their loved ones. Since opening in 1997, the center has continued to offer several support groups, classes and workshops at no cost.
The support center is part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The PFCSC is mostly funded by donations and grants, and depends heavily on volunteers. Duties vary widely, including restocking and distributing patient education materials throughout the Cancer Center, assisting patients who call and walk-in, helping patients find resources to match their needs, updating various databases, performing online research and special projects. Volunteers provide patients in all stages of cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery with a friendly atmosphere and helpful attitude.
